1. Poly house technology should only be supervised by experienced personnel
The time has
necessitated the adoption of hi-Tech
Agriculture in our state. Unlike
the use of other hi-tech gadgets by our people are little bit hesitant to the
new production technologies. The reasons are many fold, as the investment to
this technology is high on par with our traditional cultivation practices
and uncertainty of marketing options and
non availability of production technologies
and mushrooming of so called” experts” in hi- tech agriculture without having any background on agricultural
science aggravated the situation
2. Capsicum is one of ideal the crops for poly houses in our Area
Once the
construction of poly house is over, after recognizing the possibilities of market,
incorporating the crop production technologies and utilizing the available
technology we can start cultivation.
In poly
house cultivation coloured capsicums fetch good price in market which will be
sold not below Rs 100. The red variety Bomby and Yellow variety Orobelle of
Syngenta is ideal to our climate. Once the
seeds are ready they are grown in portrays with coco peat and vermicompost
mixture prepared in 1:1 ratio and transplanted 45 d.a.p. Then the crop is
raised in medium prepared for raising of the crop. Usually a spacing of 30x30cm
is followed.
Self pollinated crops are ideal in poly houses.
3. Imported Fertilizers should be used
The fertigation is given using19:19:19,
Monoammonium Phosphate, Calcium Nitrate and Potassium Nitrate and Magnesium Sulphate
as per schedule. Micronutrients are given once in biweekly intervals. In
soilless media periodic application of humic acid is recommended.
Ordinary fertilizers may block laterals and
mains in due course.
4. Continous
Trailing and pruning are required in poly house
Continuous Trailing and pruning of
the plant is essential for proper growth
and production of fruits .when plant is pruned to have 4 branches alone for achieving
this tip of plant is nipped first to get two branches and which in turn is nipped
of two produce two more branches, the branches are supported by four strings which
hangs from the top of poly house for the support of the plants.
If you want a football like plants do
not prune it.
5. In poly
house insects are present and spraying is required
Contrary to
the popular belief that poly houses are not always devoid of using of pesticides.
Mites and armyworms are major pest attacking capsicum in poly houses.
Anthracnose the common disease affecting fruits ,For controlling mites
acaricide like Oberon of Bayer broad spectrum insecticide Pegasus of Syngenta
is found effective. Army worm (Spodoptera) can be controlled by Flubediamide or
by spraying contact insecticide Quinalphos. Anthracnose can be controlled
prophylatically by pseudomonas or by Carbendazim.
6. Soon it becomes breakeven …..
In a poly house
having area of 480 Sq. m 1400plants can be raised .The average potential
production is 5kg capsicum per plant per year. The price of can be calculated
and it becomes more of a breakeven in construction cost involved.
