Why pesticides?


Why pesticides? As a child  I applied Kerosene to control pests eating my plants but unfortunately I lost my plants I learned that pesticides are the solutions ,Today Food production not possible without scientific use of pesticides. Famines like Irish potato famine occurred due to the diseases  affecting potato. In modern era newer and newer molecules are developed to  suit the  needs. It may be fungicide ,weedicide or it may be an insecticide Handle  only after getting expert advice only, because we are answerable to  our newer generations.

FLUBENDIAMIDE



When caterpillars are far beyond economic threshold level affecting your crop what strategy you would take to control the larvae?  A new generation molecule developed against Lepidopteron pests (largest order of insects comprising moths and butterflies.)From our experience larvae of this order, this assumes a major pest of crops not only in rice but vegetables to be controlled most frequently. We used to give our recommendations in the form of application of contact insecticides as we think about chemical method of controlling pests. .Now a new generation molecule, Flubendiamide is found to be useful in controlling larvae of many pests. This insecticide contains Green Triangle mark shows its less toxicity. From experience it is seen that the result of application becomes obvious from third day of application.

THIAMETHOXAM 25% WG

Kerala a consuming state in India with regards to Vegetables from Tamilnadu and Karnataka, Thanks to the new introduction of a  new generation pesticide  THIAMETHOXAM25% .Studies conducted at Kerala Agricultural university ,the vegetables sprayed with Thiamethoxam shows low residual pesticides residues so vegetables can be safely consumed says university authorities.Kerala Agricultural university recommends Thiamethoxam25% for paddy and other crops as interim recommendation. the quantity of the chemical needed for pest control is very little say2Gms in 10Litres of water for spraying.,which dose not mean that this chemical is extremely toxic to humans.

CARTAP HYDROCHLORIDE

MR. Jonson M.S asked me to throw some information on the present trend of pesticides use in Kerala, i may try to focus some commonly used pesticides herewith.
CARTAP HYDROCHLORIDE is an insecticide which is used agaist stem borer and leaf folder of paddy.The insecticide has systemic activity and is a SYNTHETIC ANALOGUE OF NERIS TOXIN found in a marine annelid. Generally speaking recommendations granular insecticides are expressed in terms of ai/ha .here the recommended dose is 25kgi/ha.
